This article analyzes Kosovo's biomass energy sector and the investment opportunities it presents. Biomass has traditionally been a significant energy source in Kosovo, though its supply has declined from 363.34 ktoe in 2021 to 159.30 ktoe in 2024. This decline represents a structural shift that creates opportunities in modernized biomass utilization, pellet production facilities and waste-to-energy projects. The transition from traditional biomass burning to modern, efficient biomass technologies represents a significant investment opportunity.
Biomass findings obtained from the uploaded ASK energy sources and sectoral consumption files are as follows: Total Primary Supply and Decline Trend: While biomass in Kosovo's primary energy supply was 247.65 ktoe in 2013, it increased to 396.93 ktoe in 2019. However, after this peak, there was a radical decline and as of 2024, biomass supply decreased to 159.30 ktoe.
Sectoral Biomass Consumption Distribution in Kosovo (2024)
The graph above shows that biomass produced in Kosovo is used in residential heating in huge amounts. This table proves that modern pellet production investments can directly target the household market.
