The equation of a population 100% connected to the network and a water volume of which 60% is lost; This makes Kosovo one of Europe's most attractive "infrastructure optimization and rehabilitation" markets for hardware and software companies selling IoT-based smart water meters, SCADA automation systems and anti-leakage pressure valves (PRV). Data alone is not enough to make an investment decision; Water infrastructure tender legislation, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) laws and municipal development plans should also be legally examined.
Starting Point (2011): In 2011, only 1,138,549 (about 63.96%) of Kosovo's 1.78 million population were connected to the public water network. 641,472 people (36.20% of the population) were outside the network. Rapid Growth Period: With the acceleration of infrastructure investments, this rate increased to 87.52% in 2015, 86.31% in 2018 and 96.84% in 2020. Full Coverage (2022 Peak): As of 2022, 1,759,310 of the total population of 1.76 million have been integrated into the public water network. The population rate connected to the grid reached 99.83%, providing almost full coverage. The population outside the network is statistically close to zero with only 2,910 people (0.17%). Trend: In the last 11 years (2011-2022), the rate of access to public water infrastructure has made a huge jump of approximately 36 points.
