e Dukagjini Plain, covering the west and southwest of Kosovo, has a natural advantage in terms of agricultural irrigation capacity and hydrological nutrition compared to the Kosovo Plain covering the eastern and central parts. In 2021, Dukagjini received 906.9 mm of precipitation, while the Kosovo Plain remained at 711.3 mm. This gap was preserved in the 2024 data; Dukagjini received 647.3 mm of precipitation, and the Kosovo Plain received 615.1 mm of precipitation. For orchards, industrial agricultural facilities or hydroelectric (HEPP) projects that need water intensively, the Dukagjini basin offers a geographically higher water supply.

For example, in 2023, the Kosovo Plain received 743.5 mm of precipitation, while the Dukagjini Plain received 830.4 mm of precipitation. Precipitation Volatility (Fluctuation): There is a serious fluctuation (volatility) in the annual precipitation regime. While the Kosovo Plain received only 569.8 mm of precipitation in the dry year 2022, this figure increased to 743.5 mm in 2023 and decreased again to 615.1 mm in 2024. Similarly, while the Dukagjini Plain received a very high rainfall of 948.7 mm in 2016, it remained at the level of 647.3 mm in 2024.
