According to ASK's "Number of post offices used and not used" data set, there is a steady contraction and deactivation process in Kosovo's total official post office infrastructure. Examining the data: 2017: There were 177 post offices across Kosovo. 166 were actively "used" and only 11 were "not used." 2019: Total post offices dropped to 174; used offices fell to 133, while unused offices jumped to 41. 2020-2022 Period: From 2020 through end of 2022, the situation completely stabilized: 129 of 169 total post offices remained in use, while 40 post offices were permanently registered as closed (unused). This data mathematically proves that in just a 5-year period from 2017 to 2022, the number of officially active post offices decreased by 22%.
The number of closed/unused post offices rising from 11 in 2017 to 40 in 2022 shows that digital bill payments have become widespread, tools like letters/telegrams have been abandoned, and cargo distribution has largely shifted to private logistics firms. Is this data an opportunity for private e-commerce distribution companies?
Absolutely not. Establishing a cargo company is subject to heavy legal procedures requiring: obtaining a license from the Ministry of Transport, commercial vehicle fleet insurance, warehouse (depot) licensing, and hiring courier personnel in compliance with local labor laws. Does the decline in official postal service make reaching rural areas more difficult?
