This volumetric increase of approximately 31% shows that new residential settlements and increasing water consumption habits in Kosovo increase the burden on the sewage infrastructure. Per Capita Wastewater Consumption and Network Coverage According to 2022 statistics, one person in Kosovo produces an average of 24.82 cubic meters of wastewater per year. The most striking data is the collection infrastructure of this wastewater. While only 55.17% of households were connected to the central grid in 2013, this rate reached 99.83% by 2022. The fact that almost all of the wastewater can be collected in a central network means that the "collector lines" for wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) projects have already been largely completed. (Kosovo Investment Editorial Comment:) The high rate of wastewater collection in the network but the lack of adequate biological and chemical treatment facilities at the end points (discharge areas) means a market gap worth billions of Euros in Kosovo for international environmental technology companies and contractors.
Total Wastewater Volume: While the amount of wastewater produced by households in Kosovo was 33.89 million cubic meters in 2013, it showed a steady increase and reached 43.66 million cubic meters in 2022 and 44.43 million cubic meters (44,431,380 m³) in 2023. Production Per Capita: According to 2022 data, the annual amount of wastewater per capita in Kosovo was recorded as 24.82 cubic meters. This rate corresponds to approximately 2.0 - 2.5 cubic meters per month. Network Connection: While the rate of households included in the infrastructure (locked into the sewerage/water network) was 55.17% in 2013, it has reached 99.83% by 2022, providing almost full coverage.
