: Total CO2 Emission: While Kosovo's national Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission was 8,408.77 Gigagrams (Gg) in 2020, it decreased slightly to 8,343.49 Gg in 2021 . (Note: 1 Gigagram = 1,000 tons) Methane (CH4) and Nitrogen Oxide (N2O): Methane gas emissions from industry and agriculture decreased from 23.44 Gg in 2020 to 19.11 Gg in 2021 . N2O emissions are at 1.51 Gg as of 2021 . Sectoral Leader (Energy): By far the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions is the Electricity, Gas and Steam Supply (NACE D) sector. While this sector produced 6,294.00 Gg of CO2 in 2020, it increased to 6,489.00 Gg with an increase in production in 2021 . - ✦(Kosovo Investment Editorial Comment:) While Kosovo's competitive energy prices are currently a great advantage for industrial investments, the fact that energy is produced largely from carbon-intensive sources (huge emissions in the NACE D sector) is a strategic risk for companies that will export to the European Union.
- ✦This will turn Kosovo from a risky situation into a great advantage for investors who produce their own renewable energy (Solar/SPP or Wind) and start product-based ESG carbon reporting early.
- ✦Investment opportunities can be evaluated with professional consultancy.
