BRIEF SUMMARY Chronic kidney failure patients' dependence on dialysis services in Kosovo creates an enormous and uninterrupted operational burden on state hospitals. According to Kosovo Agency of Statistics (ASK) data, over 120,000 hemodialysis sessions are performed annually in state hospitals nationwide. The University Clinical Center (QKUK) in the capital and Prizren General Hospital alone bear more than half of this burden. This capacity squeeze in the public sector and patients' obligation to be connected to machines three days a week offer a stable market gap for private dialysis centers with modern equipment; while also transforming the "Holiday Dialysis" concept for diaspora visiting the country during summer months into a profitable health tourism model.
The biggest advantage that distinguishes it from other developing countries in Europe is the fact of "diaspora". Thousands of Kosovars living in various countries in Europe return to their countries during the summer months or holidays. However, expats who are dialysis patients have to keep their holiday periods short or not come at all because they have difficulty finding a clean, comfortable and private dialysis center at European standards in Kosovo. A special "Holiday Dialysis" center, accredited to European standards, to be established in Prizren, Pristina or Ferizaj, is an excellent health tourism move with direct foreign exchange earnings.
As t Venture team, our analysis is that despite the high profitability of the dialysis center investment, its technical barriers (Capex) should be carefully calculated. The compliance of the facility's pure water treatment systems with international nephrology standards, the import of the devices through the Kosovo Medical Products Agency (AKPPM) and the equivalence of the specialist doctor (nephrologist) must be managed by a professional team.
