BRIEF SUMMARY Demand for radiological imaging services provided by public hospitals in Kosovo is on a steady upward trend. According to official data, the intensity in Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans is particularly notable; annual CT scans at the 32,000 level in 2016 exceeded 50,000 by 2023. MRI services are predominantly concentrated at the QKUK (University Clinical Center) in the capital Pristina, with the equipment shortage in regional hospitals being evident. Despite high initial investment costs, this picture points to serious market potential for private radiology and advanced imaging (MRI, PET-CT) centers offering continuous and predictable patient flow.
DATA-BASED ANALYSIS Kosovo Agency of Statistics' Health_and_Welfare__Number of radiological services provided in Kosovo hospitals_ 2016 - 2023.csv file findings: 56% Increase in CT Scans: While 32,194 CT scans were performed across Kosovo in 2016, this reached 40,551 in 2021 and 50,347 in 2023 with 56% growth. In 2023, 26,359 of these were performed at QKUK alone. QKUK Dominance in MRI Services: MRI services are almost entirely under QKUK's burden. While 6,204 MRI scans were performed in 2016, this capacity rose to 12,441 in 2021 and 12,831 in 2023. By 2023, MRI device usage in regional centers outside QKUK is limited (e.g., 1,640 scans at Pejë Hospital in 2023). Regional Imaging Volume: Prizren Hospital performed 5,343 CT and 25,448 radiography scans in 2023. Similarly, Gjakovë Hospital recorded 10,848 ultrasound and 3,144 CT scans; Pejë Hospital performed 8,788 ultrasound and 5,632 CT scans. Routine Imaging Load: In 2023 alone, a total of 207,335 radiography and 68,599 ultrasound scans were performed across all hospitals, revealing the routine workload of diagnostic centers.
