The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (ASK) data sets published under the heading 'Adults charged with criminal offenses by courts and the way of resolution' reveal the justice system's approach toward defendants in numerical terms. When examining the case outcomes of adult defendants tried in basic courts across Kosovo, conviction decisions are seen to have overwhelming dominance. According to current 2024 data, a total of 18,345 adult defendants were tried nationwide, and 15,259 received conviction decisions. In contrast, the number of acquitted defendants remained at only 434, and 490 indictments were rejected by the court. The ratio of acquittal decisions to total defendants tried is only approximately 2.3%. Looking at previous years, this determined structure maintains its stability: 2023: Of 16,160 defendants tried, 12,963 were convicted and only 206 defendants (1.27%) were acquitted. 2022: Of 15,281 defendants tried, 12,758 were convicted and the number of acquitted defendants remained at 179 (1.17%). The data proves that indictments prepared by the prosecution are largely accepted in courts and that the probability of persons violating rules exiting the judicial system through acquittal is statistically extremely low.
