An examination of the Prices__HICP _2015_100__monthly and annual price changes_ 2002M05 - 2026M02.csv data file published by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) reveals the following: The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), calculated with 2015 as the base year (2015=100), reflects overall price level changes in the Kosovo market. In mid-2022, in parallel with global effects, the annual HICP rate of change peaked; for example, in July 2022 the HICP index reached 124.2, while the annual price increase was recorded at 14.2%. Following this peak, a gradual normalization process began, and as of December 2023 the HICP index stood at 129.8 while the annual rate of change declined to 2.3%. According to December 2024 data, the HICP index reached 131.2 and the annual inflation rate (price increase rate) declined to 1.1%, signaling stabilization.
The overall HICP data is useful for understanding the market's general purchasing power; however, the price elasticity of each sector (food, housing, transport, etc.) is different. Therefore, in addition to the general data, attention should also be focused on specific sector sub-indices (e.g., COICOP sub-groups).
