Based on Census_population__Data on the population and households in Kosovo for the years 2011 and 2024.csv. Key findings: Total Population Change: Kosovo's population declined from 1,739,825 in 2011 to 1,602,515 in 2024. Working-Age Population Growth (15-64): Despite the quantitative population decline, the share of the productive and economically active 15-64 age group rose from 65.26% in 2011 to 67.09% in 2024. As of 2024, the working-age population stands at 1,063,687. Decline in Dependency Ratio: The 'dependent population' ratio consisting of children (0-14) and elderly (65+) dropped from 34.74% in 2011 to 32.91% in 2024. This indicates a lighter burden of dependents on the active workforce. Elderly Population (65+) Trend: The share of population aged 65 and over rose from 6.70% in 2011 to 10.97% in 2024. While the population remains young, an aging trend has begun. Gender Distribution: The gender ratio of the population remains balanced. In 2024, the male population is 804,538 and the female population is 797,977 (Gender ratio: 101.0). Important Note: While this data shows the country's overall labor force capacity, it alone is insufficient for a sectoral investment decision; qualification levels, educational attainment, and regional distribution data must also be reviewed.
The 15-64 age group of over 1.06 million exceeding 67% of the total population proves that Kosovo is in its 'demographic window of opportunity.' There is a vast potential workforce pool for labor-intensive sectors such as industry, textiles, call centers, and service exports. What does the declining dependency ratio mean for the consumer market?
The dependent population (children and elderly) share declining to 32.91% of the total population indicates that households are trending toward having a larger share of income available for savings and individual consumption. This directly supports a market dynamic favorable to retail, entertainment, and e-commerce investments.
