According to first-instance court data published by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (ASK), the Prishtina region carries the heaviest burden of the justice system. In 2024, a total of 3,573 adult defendants were tried in Prishtina Basic Court (central courthouse). Of these, 2,775 received conviction decisions. The number of acquitted defendants remained at 111, and 137 indictments were rejected by the court. Of the 2,775 convicted in central court, 2,529 were male and 246 were female. When examining the commercial and demographic satellite branches affiliated with Prishtina Basic Court, a similar trend is observed. In 2024, 647 of 702 defendants tried in the Lipjan branch were convicted (14 acquitted); in the Podujevë branch, 545 of 592 defendants were convicted (5 acquitted); and in the Gllogovc (Drenas) branch with industrial investments, 336 of 431 defendants tried received convictions (only 1 acquittal) and 18 indictments were rejected. It is statistically established that violations brought to court across the entire basin result in criminal sanctions at a very high rate.
